A Wrap-Up of Our Week

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

 In my life this week...

There has been nothing interesting. Well, nothing except having to pass up a possible $2000/week account. Long story. It's painful to think I had to pass that up. I'll move on to more positive things now.

Positive: Switched meds for one of the girls (we use natural meds). She started them today. I should see a difference tomorrow. She had to go a few days without any at all and let me tell you.. it was not pleasant. Now I have to do the re-evaluation for the other child to see what improvements we can make in her meds as well.

In our homeschool this week...

We're at the end of Week 9 of Term III.  My girls took an online science class that they really enjoyed. They enjoyed it so much that they want to take it regularly! They love science. So that's exciting. I think I'll be looking more into that.

Lorelai's reading is definitely improving by leaps and bounds. It's been a long road for her but I think it's finally really "setting in" for her now. Alexis is beginning an online writing program. I've never been big on online courses, but it seems to be doing well with us these days.

We're starting a unit study. Now, I've never been big on unit studies. But since these fall right in with the Charlotte Mason method, I'm so very excited. You can read more about that and enter a giveaway to receive a unit study yourself!

Things I’m working on...
I'm thinking of shutting down my cleaning service. I think it's seen it's day and I am tired of trying to resuscitate it. Really.. the plug needs to be pulled. This economy isn't working for me.

But I need to replace my income. So I'm trying to figure out my next move. What can I do to earn money yet stay home to take care of the girls? Gotta put on my super-powered thinking cap.

I’m cooking...
  • Cheesy Ranch Chicken Pasta
  • Hearty "Perfect" Chili (my recipe)
  • Southwestern Baked Potatoes (my recipe but not on a blog yet)
  • Cheese Enchiladas
  • Grilled Brown Sugar Pork Chops
  • Copycat Panera Broccoli and Cheddar Soup
  • Nothing planned..so that usually means pizza

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

Implementing the changes, we did lessons whenever we could. This was at night.

Alexis latest drawing.

  1. Stopping by from HMJ and, although I write about homeschooling at trainingHappyHearts.blogspot.com and am not really making another blog I wrote all that public yet, I wanted to share it with you. You said you were looking for work at home stuff. I am doing the same. Actually I am looking to be a FAHM Free At Home (my own acronym) and am starting to get serious about it. Join me! And good luck http://beyondwahm.blogspot.com/p/about.html

Love the idea of doing an online science class! Science is seriously lacking in our curriculum? How does that work? I've only ever seen "total" curriculums (like k12.com).

  3. OK...Alexis's drawing is awesome! I love that stuff! (I can't draw though.) She did fab!

All the best trying to replace your income. It can be a challenge in this economy, but I bet you're find something that meets your time with patient and creativity. I often think of trying my hand at something just to bring in a little for "extras", but I haven't did an all out search and just seeing what pops up.

Alexis is quite the artist, indeed. I can't draw either. :-P

Hopefully something either turns around with my business or something better comes along. Time will tell. Thanks for coming by!

Thanks for the compliment on Alexis' drawing. We're trying a few new things too. That's a great thing about homeschooling, isn't it? The ability to try things when you want to do something different.

  9. What online writing program are you using? I would be interested in having Austin do that, maybe next year.
