10 Toys that Have Stood the Test of Time

Toys come and go, but some toys stand the test of time, entertaining generation after generation.

10 toys that have stood the test of time

Even though technology continually moves forward, bring us new and exciting - and expensive - ways to entertain our kids, there are some toys that just never fade away in their popularity.

I've been thinking the toys my kids have enjoyed, and realized many are the same toys I had as a child. Here's a list of those seemingly timeless toys.

10 Toys that Have Stood the Test of Time

{Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links.}

1. LEGO building sets - The difference between when I was a kid and now is only that there are so many sets. All we had were some basic building blocks. I'm amazed all the many choices there are these days!

2. K'NEX sets - Again, the collection continues to grow and kids love them. I always enjoyed Lincoln Logs when I was a kid.

3. Play-Doh - I loved it. My kids loved it. My second set of kids loved it and my granddaughter does, too. Play-doh never goes out of style.

4. Train Sets - I loved train sets when I was a little girl. I use to play with my cousins (boys) for hours with them. My own son was really into them when he was younger. I think obsessed may have been the word for it, but we like to use the term "high interest level." ;-)

5. Swing Sets - I think we all know this.

6. Hacky Sacks - My son is an adult and still enjoys hacky sacks.

7. Barbie and Accessories - Love 'em or hate 'em, they've endured a long time and are here to stay.

8. Board Games - Games like Connect 4, Sorry! and Monopoly have truly withstood the test of time. Many have become even more popular or been made into electronic games.

9. Pogo Sticks - I never had either of these, but I did play with my cousin's pogo stick when I visited her. One of the most treasured gifts my daughter, Alexis, ever received from her father was a pogo stick.

10. Video games - Although these would be the new kids on the block, they've been around, more or less, since the 70s, so I'm fairly certain they're here to stay.

This is a list that could be endless really. In fact, this is my second list about toys. Go check out 10 Playthings All My Kids Have Enjoyed!

  1. Lego building sets have always been popular at our house! Another thing that my children enjoyed and now my grandson is enjoying is the Little Tykes Cozy Coupe. I have cleaned out part of a small closet for its "garage." lol

  2. Yep, these are all great toys! What I love the most is the fact they all allow for imagination, something many more "modern" toys don't.
