10 Playthings All My Kids Have Enjoyed

May 14, 2013

Some playthings simply stand the test of time. whether my kids are 30 or 10, they've all enjoyed these things. www.apassionledlife.com

I've never been big on buying toys.

I have five children and none of them have ever had an overabundance of toys. Actually, for the most part, they did not have store-bought toys.

I've never seen the logic in expensive, breakable toys. Yes, they've all had things they enjoyed - Lee Anne loved Polly Pockets when she was young. My son collected POGS.

But mostly, they've enjoyed traditional toys, the great outdoors and their imagination. Today I share with you...

Kitchen Utensils, Pots and Pans - could there be anything easier than just opening the cabinet?

Fisher-Price Toddlerz Chatter Telephone - Who hasn't owned this?

Art Supplies - You name it. Crayons, markers, paints of all types, paper, canvases, coloring pencils. I've yet to find a kid who won't find perfect uses for these.

Wheels - Skateboards, Bicycles, Rollerblades. Pretty standard childhood stuff here.

Nature - Trees, mud, gardening, forests, caterpillars, etc. They've all been good clean (or not-so-clean) fun for all of my kids.

Books - I've surrounded my children with books from the beginning. Not all of my children enjoy reading but we all have wonderful memories and books that we jointly "connect" with as a family.

Swimming Pools - Whether a kiddie pool or a larger pool for the entire family, this is a must-have around here. Florida is hot. (And don't forget the beach toys!)

Game Boxes - Yes, beginning with Atari and moving right through Nintendo, Play Station and whatever else, these have been in our home. They may rarely be played with, but they have always been here.

Sports Equipment - Soccer balls, baseball bats, tennis rackets, Volleyball sets, Lawn Darts and other outdoor sports stuff. Oddly, we're not "sports"  people. We don't play on teams. We don't watch them on T.V. but we like relaxed playing out in our yard or on a tennis court at the park.
Now you have and idea of the kinds of toys my kids have owned over the 27 years I've been doing this mom thing.

What kinds of toys do your kids enjoy? Share in the comments.

Happy Parenting!
