A Week of Moments to Remember

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week...

This week was a week full of moments worth remembering.

I visited with a friend who just found out she has cancer. She's only 37 years old. We met 14 years ago when we both worked at a local health food store. We've been friends ever since. She was on the team of midwives who attended my home birth for Lorelai. Five years later, she was on the same team of midwives for my granddaughter's home birth.

Although we're not the type of friends that talk on the phone all the time or even hang out all the time, she's a very special woman who means a lot to our family. She's watched my kids grow into adults and helped bring my last one into the world. She is family! She's been there for us and now we'll be there for her.

In our homeschool this week...

Week #1 of our Term I

This week was the beginning of our new homeschool year. Since things haven't gone as planned with my tax refund, there was no hoopla to this event. It was business as usual. Alexis is making great strides in her math skills which is giving her great joy. We are going to start her in Math-U-See next month. I believe it will be good for helping her (she has Dyscalculia) because it's multi-sensory. She's behind on her essay course, so we're catching up on that.

My favorite thing this week was...

Spending Saturday with Lorelai and my granddaughter. We went downtown to the coffee shop, then the Asian market, then Berryville. Afterwards, we went to a park that Lorelai has never been to before. It's across the street from the house her dad and I lived in 16 years ago when my adult children were little ones.

It was nice. I got to tell her about living there and things our family did. She actually asked questions about her dad for the first time, specifically questions relating to his Bipolar Disorder.

I'm not sure what prompted those particular questions but I suspect it was an attempt at understanding.. something. Or perhaps trying to relate to him in the only way she knows? I don't know. But I'm glad she had a great day and did show some interest in her dad. It's hard to keep him "alive" in her mind since she was so young when he died.

My kiddos favorite thing this week was...

We went to the fair. We brought back with us: 2 Teddy Bears, 1 Red Plush Puppy, and 2 Goldfish

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

These photos are from our last weekend of spring break.

    1. I stay off the Ferris Wheel. I have a serious issue with heights!

      Thanks for stopping by, Jamie.

  3. Michelle -- I'm so glad you had a good week. I am sorry to hear about your friend, but I am thankful she has you. There are way too many people I know that have cancer right now. I pray every day for there to be a cure for this awful disease.

Thanks for linking with Collage Friday... the fair looks like fun!
