Our Charlotte Mason Education
Year 4
Year 4
It's my favorite time of the homeschool blogger year: The NOT Back-to-School Blog Hop! It started back in 2009 and I participate each year because I love seeing what everyone has in store for their homeschool year. What fun!
Curriculum Week
This week, we are sharing our curriculum. I put mine together a while back because our "first day of school" was in April. However, like many of you, I tweak as we go. I am re-posting my original plan with the "tweaks" included.
The first section, "Year Long", lists the materials we'll be using all year. You'll then see sections divided by Terms. There you'll see the subjects that are ever-changing.
YEAR-LONG
History
World History
Heritage of History Ancient Greece. This is actually the biggest (and best!) tweak I've made. I had written and purchased books but we ended up falling in love with Heritage History. It's a simple, affordable option for a living-books history curriculum.World History
U.S. History
We're studying U.S. History this year too. We watched "America: The Story of Us" as an overview back in the spring. While definitely biased, it has proven to be a great overview and an opportunity to discuss the downfalls of human reasoning as opposed to God's view.
We've been using one of the old textbooks from our public school days, as a spine book But I see that Heritage History now has a U.S. History curriculum. So I'll be getting that, too! I also have obtained a copy of Indian Nations of North America, which is a wonderful resource for studying Native American culture, history, art and more. It's chock full of maps and useful information.

What are you using for Foreign Language?
ReplyDeleteI teach them Spanish and Sign Language myself. Alexis has been teaching herself Japanese (not sure how..but she has) and now she's trying busuu.com for languages.
ReplyDeleteWhat grades/ages are these for?
ReplyDeleteWe don't do grade levels. This would be my "Year 4" curriculum regardless of ages. The only exceptions would be science, math, grammar and their independent reading (which I label literature). If my kids were in school, they would be 4th and 9th grades in the Fall of this year.
ReplyDeleteI noticed Alexis will be reading Freckles. I had all but forgotten about that book, but I read Freckles, Girl of the Limberlost, Keeper of the Bees and my personal favorite, The Harvester. I think I'll have Austin read those! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat! Glad my post triggered something for you. :-)
